The Stewart Warner 82309 Deluxe Voltmeter is a 12V electrical analog gauge designed to monitor battery and charging-system voltage in compatible automotive, fleet, heavy-duty equipment, industrial, and protected dashboard applications. It uses Stewart Warner's classic Deluxe styling with a black face, white pointer, white markings, and polished stainless steel bezel.

This gauge displays system voltage across a 10–16V DC range and fits a standard 2-1/16 in. / 52 mm instrument opening.

Key Features

  • Stewart Warner Deluxe Series voltmeter.
  • Part number: 82309.
  • Common catalog formatting: SWA82309 and SWW-82309.
  • Gauge type: electrical voltmeter.
  • Scale range: 10–16V DC.
  • Sweep style: 90° short sweep.
  • Gauge diameter: 2-1/16 in. / 52 mm.
  • Black face with white pointer and white graphics.
  • Polished stainless steel bezel.
  • Plated steel case construction.
  • Rear connections: #8-32 threaded studs.
  • Integrated 12V light kit for backlighting.
  • 24V bulb options may be available separately where required.
  • Operating temperature reference: -40°C to +85°C.
  • Front-sealed IP66-style construction with dust-resistant rear design.

Application Compatibility

Common application context includes 12V DC instrument panels where a 2-1/16 in. voltmeter is required, including:

  • Automotive dashboards.
  • Heavy-duty truck and fleet panels.
  • Industrial equipment instrument clusters.
  • Generator, utility, and service-equipment panels.
  • Custom hot rod and restoration dashboards.
  • Protected helm or equipment panels where plated steel construction is suitable.
  • Matching Stewart Warner Deluxe Series gauge layouts.

Use this voltmeter only where the system voltage, panel cutout, rear clearance, terminal layout, lighting circuit, and environmental exposure match the installation.

Fitment Notice

Confirm compatibility by system voltage, dash opening, mounting depth, terminal clearance, panel exposure, and lighting voltage before ordering. The 82309 uses a plated steel case and polished stainless steel bezel, making it different from the brass-cased marine-specific Deluxe Marine 82112 voltmeter. For exposed saltwater helm installations, confirm whether the marine brass-case version is the better match.

When This Product Needs Replacement

Replace the voltmeter if the needle sticks, reads incorrectly against a known-good multimeter, has failed illumination, corroded terminals, a cracked lens, damaged bezel, water intrusion, or intermittent readings caused by internal gauge failure. Before replacing the gauge, inspect battery voltage, alternator output, ignition feed, ground quality, and panel wiring.

Installation Notes

Disconnect battery power before working behind the panel. Mount the gauge in a clean 2-1/16 in. opening and secure it with the proper bracket and hardware. Connect the positive, ground, and lighting terminals according to the Stewart Warner wiring instructions.

For accurate readings, use clean terminals and a solid ground path. After installation, compare the gauge reading against a digital multimeter at the battery and at the gauge feed. A large difference usually points to voltage drop, poor grounding, or wiring resistance rather than a gauge problem.

Alternate / Cross-Reference Part Numbers

  • Stewart Warner 82309 — manufacturer part number
  • SWA82309 — common catalog/reference formatting
  • SWW-82309 — common performance catalog formatting
  • STW82309 — industrial catalog formatting
  • Stewart Warner Deluxe Voltmeter — product description reference
  • Stewart Warner 82112 — related marine brass-case Deluxe Marine voltmeter reference; verify environment and panel requirements before substitution

Parts Desk Insight

The key difference between 82309 and the marine 82112 is construction. Both are 10–16V Deluxe-style voltmeters, but the 82309 is aimed more at automotive, fleet, and equipment panels with a plated steel case, while the 82112 is the better match when a brass marine case is required. For any voltmeter replacement, check voltage at the gauge before replacing the instrument.
