The Stewart Warner 824522D is a Deluxe Series mechanical temperature gauge kit designed for direct engine temperature monitoring in compatible automotive, fleet, industrial, marine service, and equipment panel applications. Unlike an electrical temperature gauge that relies on a remote sender and wiring resistance, this mechanical gauge uses a sealed capillary tube and temperature bulb to move the gauge needle directly.
This kit is intended for installations where a 2-1/16 in. mechanical temperature gauge with a 120°F to 270°F range and full-sweep Deluxe-style display is required.
Key Features
- Stewart Warner Deluxe mechanical temperature gauge kit.

Product Compatibility
Common application context includes dashboard, panel, diagnostic, and restoration installations where a mechanical temperature gauge is preferred, including:
- Automotive restoration panels.
- Heavy-duty truck and fleet equipment.
- Industrial engine panels.
- Generator and power-unit test stands.
- Mechanical engine monitoring setups.
- Marine service or protected panel applications where the gauge style and installation environment are suitable.
- Applications requiring direct mechanical temperature sensing instead of an electrical sender signal.
Use this kit only where the temperature range, gauge size, capillary length, sender bulb size, thread adapter, and installation route match the equipment.
Fitment Notice
Confirm compatibility by dash cutout, available panel depth, capillary tube length, engine port thread size, sensing bulb clearance, temperature range, and lighting voltage before ordering. Mechanical temperature gauges require the capillary tube and sensing bulb to remain intact. The capillary tube cannot be cut, shortened, sharply bent, kinked, soldered, or repaired once damaged.
If the engine port does not match the supplied adapter fittings, an additional brass adapter may be required.
When This Product Needs Replacement
Replace the gauge kit if the needle is stuck, the capillary tube is kinked or broken, the sensing bulb is damaged, the gauge reads inaccurately against a known-good temperature reference, the lens or bezel is damaged, the lighting fails, or the fittings no longer seal properly. Mechanical temperature gauges should also be replaced if the sealed capillary system has lost its internal charge.
Installation Notes
Disconnect battery power before working behind the panel. Mount the gauge in a clean 2-1/16 in. opening and route the capillary tube carefully from the gauge to the engine temperature port. Avoid tight bends, exhaust heat, sharp edges, moving linkages, belts, and steering or throttle components.
Install the sensing bulb into the correct coolant, water, oil, or fluid temperature port only where the equipment service procedure allows it. Use the correct brass adapter for the engine port and avoid over-tightening small fittings. After installation, run the engine to operating temperature and check for leaks, stable gauge movement, and reasonable temperature readings.

Parts Desk Insight
The main advantage of a mechanical temperature gauge is direct sensing. It does not depend on sender resistance, wiring condition, voltage drop, or ground quality to move the needle. The tradeoff is installation care: the capillary tube must be routed safely and protected from kinks or heat damage. Always confirm the engine port thread size before installation so the sensing bulb seats and seals correctly.
