The Globe DriveSaver Model 908 is a premium marine flexible shaft coupling used between the transmission output flange and propeller shaft coupling on compatible inboard propulsion systems. Built from Globe's Brandonite® non-metallic elastomeric material, the DriveSaver helps absorb driveline shock, reduce vibration transfer, accommodate minor alignment movement, and electrically isolate the shaft from the transmission to help reduce galvanic corrosion paths.
Model 908 is intended for heavy-duty marine driveline installations where the gearbox flange, bolt pattern, pilot diameter, and torque rating match the coupling specifications.
Key Features
- Globe DriveSaver flexible shaft coupling.
- Globe factory part number: 01-12-0230.
- Model: 908.
- Designed for compatible 9-inch gearbox flange applications.
- Non-metallic Brandonite® construction for vibration isolation and driveline shock absorption.
- Helps provide electrical isolation between transmission and propeller shaft.
- Intended for large pleasure craft, commercial vessels, and heavy-duty marine propulsion systems where specifications match.
- Helps reduce stress transfer from propeller strikes, shifting shock, and driveline vibration.
- Must be selected by exact flange pattern, pilot, torque rating, and shaft/transmission configuration.

Transmission Compatibility
Common application context includes heavy-duty inboard marine transmissions and gearboxes where the output flange matches the DriveSaver 908 specification, including:
- Select Allison marine transmission installations where the flange pattern matches.
- Select Twin Disc marine gear applications where specified.
- Select ZF / Hurth marine transmission installations where the 9-inch flange, bolt circle, pilot, and torque requirements match.
- Select heavy-duty commercial and pleasure craft driveline installations using an 8-bolt, 9-inch flange configuration.
Use this coupling only where the transmission output flange, shaft coupling, pilot diameter, bolt circle, bolt size, and torque rating match the Globe DriveSaver Model 908 / 01-12-0230 specification.
Fitment Notice
Confirm fitment by transmission model, output flange diameter, bolt circle, pilot diameter, bolt size, shaft coupling face, available shaft movement, and engine torque before ordering. Marine flexible couplings are not selected by transmission brand alone. Similar transmissions can have different output flanges, bolt patterns, pilot registers, and coupling requirements depending on ratio, production range, adapter flange, or previous repower work.
If the installation is near the torque limit, confirm whether the standard 908, 908S, or plus-rated variant is required before purchase.
When This Product Needs Replacement
Replace the DriveSaver if the coupling is cracked, swollen, distorted, delaminated, oil-soaked, heat-damaged, crushed, or showing separated material around the bolt holes. It should also be inspected after a propeller strike, grounding, driveline vibration complaint, shaft alignment issue, transmission replacement, engine repower, or coupling removal.
A failed or incorrectly selected flexible coupling can create vibration, fastener loosening, driveline misalignment, shaft seal wear, transmission bearing stress, or loss of proper propulsion alignment.
Installation Notes
Confirm engine and shaft alignment before installing the coupling. The transmission flange and shaft coupling faces should be clean, flat, and free of burrs, paint buildup, corrosion, and old thread compound. Seat the pilot register fully before tightening fasteners.
Install the correct fasteners for the coupling and flange specification, then tighten evenly in a crisscross/star pattern so the coupling compresses uniformly. Recheck shaft alignment after installation according to the vessel or transmission service procedure. If required, use a dial indicator to verify runout and confirm that the shaft, coupling, and flange are tracking correctly before returning the vessel to service.
Related Service Considerations
During installation, inspect:
- Transmission output flange condition
- Shaft coupling face and pilot register
- Coupling bolts, washers, and lock hardware
- Shaft alignment and shaft seal condition
- Engine mounts and transmission mounts
- Propeller shaft straightness after any strike or grounding
- Whether a bushing or adapter kit is required for the specific flange

Parts Desk Insight
DriveSaver selection should always be based on measured flange specifications, not just the transmission model. The key checks are flange diameter, bolt circle, pilot diameter, bolt size, torque rating, and available installation space. A correctly matched DriveSaver can reduce vibration and provide electrical isolation, but it does not replace proper shaft alignment or worn engine mounts.
