Chip Brush vs Foam Brush — When to Use Each

• Chip bristle brush (this SKU — RTI-CHIP-1) — Best for epoxy, polyester resin, varnish, and coatings that benefit from bristle action to work the material into the surface; better for textured or porous substrates

Application Tips

For epoxy application, pre-wet the bristles with solvent or isopropyl alcohol and squeeze out excess before loading with resin — this reduces bristle absorption and extends working time. Apply epoxy in thin, even coats and tip off with light strokes to remove air bubbles. For varnish, load the brush lightly and apply with long, smooth strokes in the direction of the grain. Dispose of the brush after use with solvent-based or epoxy coatings — chip brushes are not economically cleanable with most marine solvents.
