3/8" Rope Splicer Fid Tool
Splice 3/8" braided and double-braid marine line cleanly and efficiently with this purpose-made splicer fid. Sized specifically for 3/8" rope, the FRV-129-6 is the right tool for performing eye splices, end-to-end splices, and bury splices in the braided line used for dock lines, halyards, sheets, and mooring pendants — producing strong, professional-quality splices without the need for knots.
Key Features
- 3/8" Rope Specific — Sized and tapered for 3/8" diameter braided and double-braid line; using the correct fid size is critical for clean, tight splices
- Hollow / Tubular Design — Hollow fid allows the working strand to be threaded through the tool and pulled through the rope core in a single smooth motion
- Smooth Tapered Tip — Tapered nose opens the rope braid cleanly without snagging or damaging fibres, making strand insertion easier and reducing splice time
- Durable Construction — Rigid construction withstands the tension required to pull strands through tight braided rope without bending or deforming
- Essential Splicing Tool — A correctly sized fid is the single most important tool for producing strong, reliable splices in braided line

Why Splice Instead of Knot?
A properly executed splice retains 90–100% of the rope's rated breaking strength, compared to 50–75% for most knots. Spliced eyes and terminations are also more compact, snag-free, and longer-lasting than knotted connections — making them the preferred choice for permanent dock lines, mooring pendants, halyard terminations, and any application where maximum strength and a clean finish matter.
Common Splicing Applications
- Eye splice — Permanent loop at the end of a dock line, mooring pendant, or anchor rode
- End-to-end splice — Joining two lines of the same diameter for extended length
- Bury splice — Terminating a halyard or sheet tail inside the standing part for a clean, low-profile finish
- Thimble eye splice — Splicing a thimble into a dock line or mooring pendant for shackle attachment
Usage Notes
Always use a fid sized to match your rope diameter — a fid that is too large will damage the braid; one that is too small will not open the rope sufficiently for clean strand insertion. Follow the rope manufacturer's splicing instructions for your specific rope construction (8-braid, 12-braid, double-braid). Tape the working end of the strand before threading to prevent fraying. Practice on a short scrap of rope before splicing your working line.
The FRV-129-6 is a simple, essential tool — if you work with 3/8" braided line, a correctly sized fid belongs in your toolkit.
