The N0-10, also commonly written as N-10, is a standard inch-series bearing locknut used to secure rolling bearings, pulleys, gears, sleeves, and other rotating components on compatible shafts. This low-profile carbon-steel retaining nut is designed for use with a matching tang-style lock washer so the nut can be mechanically locked after bearing adjustment or component positioning.

This locknut should be selected by shaft thread size, bearing arrangement, washer style, and equipment service specification before installation.

Key Features

  • Inch-series bearing locknut.
  • Part number: N0-10.
  • Alternate formatting: N-10 and N 10.
  • Thread size: 1.967 in. - 18 TPI.
  • Thread direction: right-hand.
  • Outside diameter: 2-11/16 in. / 2.688 in.
  • Nut thickness: 1/2 in. / 0.500 in.
  • Face diameter reference: 2.438 in.
  • Material: carbon steel.
  • Low-profile slotted locknut design.
  • Four perimeter slots for hook spanner engagement and lockwasher tang retention.
  • Requires matching W-10 or TW-10 tang lockwasher where specified.

Product Compatibility

Common application context includes industrial and equipment assemblies where an N-10 inch-series bearing locknut is specified, including:

  • Bearing retention on shafts.
  • Adapter sleeve and withdrawal sleeve assemblies.
  • Pulley, gear, sprocket, and rotating component retention.
  • Axle, hub, gearbox, and power-transmission service locations.
  • Industrial, fleet, agricultural, marine equipment, and heavy machinery maintenance where this thread and locknut size are specified.

Use this nut only where the shaft thread, washer, bearing arrangement, and service manual confirm the N0-10 / N-10 size.

Fitment Notice

Confirm fitment by shaft thread, bearing series, adapter sleeve number, washer number, nut outside diameter, available wrench clearance, and equipment service procedure before ordering. This nut is not self-locking by itself and should not be installed without the correct locking washer or approved locking method.

The matching tang washer is typically W-10 or TW-10, depending on the application and supplier format.

When This Product Needs Replacement

Replace the locknut if the threads are worn, galled, cross-threaded, cracked, rounded, corroded, distorted, or damaged at the spanner slots. Replacement is also recommended if the nut has been over-torqued, if a lockwasher tang has damaged the slot area, or if the nut no longer seats cleanly against the washer or bearing component.

Installation Notes

Clean the shaft threads and inspect the bearing, sleeve, lockwasher, and mating faces before installation. Slide the matching tang lockwasher into position with the inner tang engaged in the shaft keyway or sleeve slot where applicable. Thread the locknut on by hand first to avoid cross-threading, then tighten with the correct hook spanner or service tool.

After the bearing or component is adjusted to the equipment manufacturer's specification, bend one lockwasher tang into one of the nut slots to prevent loosening. Do not rely on the nut alone in rotating or vibration-prone service.

Parts Desk Insight

This style of bearing locknut depends on the washer to stay secure. The nut provides the clamping and adjustment force, while the tang washer provides the mechanical lock. For a proper repair, order the matching lockwasher at the same time, use the correct hook spanner, and follow the equipment manufacturer's bearing-adjustment procedure rather than tightening by feel.
