Measure the stud diameter or check the component specification before ordering. The 5/16" stud is slightly smaller than the 3/8" — do not interchange.
Nylon vs Heat Shrink for Solenoid Applications
Nylon ring terminals (this SKU) are suitable for solenoid and starter connections in dry, enclosed engine bay locations. For connections exposed to bilge water, condensation, or direct spray, upgrade to heat shrink ring terminals (SKU 1385348, 8 AWG, 5/16" stud) for a fully sealed, waterproof connection. Note that heat shrink terminals are available in 8 AWG for higher-current solenoid applications.
Installation Notes
Strip wire to the correct length so the conductor fills the barrel without extending beyond it. Use a ratcheting crimper for consistent, gas-tight crimps. Torque the stud nut to the solenoid or component manufacturer's specification — do not overtighten, which can crack the nylon insulation. Inspect terminals annually for corrosion, loosening, or heat damage from proximity to the engine and replace as needed.
