Choosing the Right Terminal
Ring terminals are the preferred termination for any connection that must remain secure under vibration — the closed ring cannot slip off a stud even if the nut loosens slightly. Use ring terminals at battery posts, bus bars, fuse blocks, and any stud-mounted connection. For quick-disconnect applications, consider spade or disconnect terminals instead.
Installation Notes
Match terminal wire gauge range to your conductor size before crimping. Strip insulation to the correct length — the bare conductor should fill the barrel without extending beyond it. Use a ratcheting crimper for consistent, gas-tight crimps; avoid plier-style crimpers which produce unreliable connections. For maximum corrosion resistance, apply adhesive-lined heat shrink over the completed crimp. Do not solder ring terminals after crimping in marine applications — solder wicking can create a stress riser and lead to wire fatigue failure.
