- Conductor color matters: The Black/Brown/Red layout follows standard bilge pump wiring conventions — Black (ground), Brown (pump), Red (float switch). Confirm your pump's wiring diagram before terminating.
- Round vs. flat jacket: This is a round-jacket cable, which pulls through conduit and tight bilge runs more easily than flat cable. Worth noting if you're replacing a flat-jacket run — you may need to re-route or upsize the conduit.
- 16 AWG is the sweet spot for most bilge pumps: Suitable for pumps up to ~20A at short runs. For high-capacity pumps (3500+ GPH) or longer runs, step up to 14 AWG or 12 AWG.
- Tinned copper is non-negotiable in the bilge: Bare copper oxidizes quickly in a wet bilge environment — standard automotive wire is not a suitable substitute.
