Intended Use
Interlux Bottomkote CA is intended for below-waterline antifouling protection on compatible boat hull surfaces. It is suitable for use on fiberglass, wood, and properly primed steel or iron surfaces where an ablative copper-based antifouling paint is specified.
This paint is designed to help discourage fouling growth such as barnacles, zebra mussels, algae, and slime while maintaining a smoother underwater surface through gradual controlled wear.
Surface Compatibility Notice
Bottomkote CA is a copper-based antifouling paint and must not be used on aluminum hulls, aluminum outdrives, or aluminum running gear. Copper-based bottom paint can cause severe galvanic corrosion when applied to aluminum surfaces.
Before application, confirm the hull material, existing coating system, primer requirements, and paint compatibility. Steel and iron surfaces must be properly primed before applying Bottomkote CA.
When This Product Needs Replacement
Recoat Bottomkote CA when the existing antifouling layer is worn thin, no longer provides effective fouling protection, or shows patchy wear after a season in the water. Boats kept in high-growth areas, warm water, heavy fouling zones, or brackish bays may require more frequent inspection and recoating.
Common signs that bottom paint service is due include increased slime build-up, algae growth, barnacle attachment, exposed primer, uneven wear, or reduced antifouling performance during the season.
Application Notes
Stir thoroughly before use and apply only to properly prepared below-waterline surfaces. Bottomkote CA may be applied by brush or short-nap roller, with practical coverage up to 505 sq. ft. per gallon depending on surface condition, film thickness, and application method.
Do not apply over incompatible coatings without proper preparation. Follow the current Interlux label and technical instructions for surface preparation, primer selection, overcoating windows, launch timing, film thickness, safety equipment, and local environmental requirements.
