This nut requires the matching W-06 lockwasher and a shaft or adapter sleeve arrangement designed for the washer’s internal tang. Without the correct lockwasher and keyway setup, the nut cannot be mechanically locked in place.
When This Part Needs Replacement
Replace the locknut if the threads are worn, galled, stretched, cross-threaded, corroded, cracked, rounded, or if the locking slots are damaged. Replacement is also recommended during bearing service if the nut no longer tightens smoothly or if the lockwasher tang cannot seat securely into the nut slot.
A worn or incorrectly matched locknut can allow bearing movement, shaft misalignment, vibration, heat buildup, or premature bearing failure.
Installation Notes
Clean the shaft threads, bearing seat, lockwasher area, and adapter sleeve before installation. Thread the nut on by hand first to confirm proper engagement, then tighten with the correct hook spanner, impact spanner, or approved bearing service tool according to the equipment manufacturer’s bearing setting procedure.
Install the matching W-06 lockwasher in the correct orientation. After final adjustment, bend one washer tang firmly into one of the four locknut slots. Do not reuse a lockwasher tang that has been repeatedly bent or no longer holds securely.
