The N-07 Bearing Locknut is a threaded shaft locknut used to secure bearings, adapter sleeves, and rotating shaft components in industrial power transmission assemblies. It is designed to hold a bearing in position on a shaft and prevent loosening caused by vibration, rotation, and load cycling.
This locknut is used with a matching W-07 or WH-07 multi-tang lockwasher. Once the nut is tightened, one lockwasher tang is bent into one of the nut slots to mechanically lock the assembly in place.
Key Features
- Industry-standard threaded bearing locknut.
- Part number: N-07.
- Alternate typed formats: NO-7 and N 07.
- Thread size: 1.376 in. x 18 TPI.
- Four-slot outside profile for hook or impact spanner tools.
- Designed for bearing retention and shaft locking applications.
- Used with matching W-07 or WH-07 lockwasher.
- Manufactured to standard industrial bearing locknut dimensions.
- Suitable for power transmission, rotating equipment, bearing housings, and adapter sleeve assemblies where specified.
Technical Specifications
- Locknut type: threaded bearing / shaft locknut
- Part number: N-07
- Thread profile: 1.376 in. x 18 TPI
- Outer diameter: 2.063 in. / approximately 52.5 mm
- Thickness / width: 0.448 in. / approximately 11.4 mm
- Slot count: 4 outer locking slots
- Required lockwasher: W-07 or WH-07 series
- Standard reference: ANSI / ABMA 8.2 style dimensional standard
Application Compatibility
Common application context includes bearing and shaft assemblies where N-07, NO-7, N 07, or an approved equivalent is specified, including:
- Bearing retention assemblies.
- Adapter sleeve installations.
- Power transmission shafts.
- Gearbox and rotating equipment service.
- Industrial machinery bearing locations.
- Shaft-mounted component retention where a slotted locknut and tang washer are required.
Use this locknut only where the shaft thread, bearing arrangement, lockwasher size, and service manual confirm N-07 compatibility.
Fitment Notice
Confirm thread size, shaft diameter, lockwasher series, bearing arrangement, and available tool clearance before ordering. Bearing locknuts are dimension-specific and should not be substituted by outside diameter alone.
This locknut must be paired with the correct W-07 or WH-07 lockwasher to create a positive mechanical lock. Without the correct lockwasher, the nut may loosen under vibration or rotating load.
When This Part Needs Replacement
Replace the locknut if the threads are worn, galled, stretched, cross-threaded, cracked, rounded, corroded, or if the locking slots are damaged. Replacement is also recommended during bearing service if the nut no longer tightens cleanly or if the mating lockwasher tangs cannot seat securely in the slots.
A damaged locknut can allow bearing movement, shaft misalignment, vibration, heat, or premature bearing failure.
Installation Notes
Clean the shaft threads and bearing seating surfaces before installation. Thread the locknut on by hand first to confirm proper engagement. Tighten using the correct spanner wrench or approved bearing service tool, following the equipment manufacturerβs bearing setting procedure.
Install the matching lockwasher in the correct orientation, then bend one washer tang into a locknut slot after final positioning. Do not reuse a washer tang that has been bent repeatedly or no longer locks securely.

Parts Desk Insight
The locknut and lockwasher must be treated as a matched retention pair. The nut provides bearing preload or axial holding force, while the washer tang physically locks the nut from rotating loose. Before ordering, confirm the 1.376 in. x 18 TPI thread and make sure the matching W-07 / WH-07 washer is available for the assembly.
