When This Part Needs Replacement
Replace the fuel filter element at the manufacturer’s recommended service interval, during seasonal diesel service, after contaminated fuel exposure, or when the engine shows symptoms of restricted fuel flow such as hard starting, rough running, hesitation, smoke, loss of power, or stalling under load.
Replacement is also recommended if the filter element is dirty, damaged, fuel-soaked beyond normal service condition, swollen, collapsed, or if the sealing grommets are hardened, cracked, flattened, or missing.
Installation Notes
Shut the engine or equipment down safely and close the fuel supply if equipped. Clean the filter housing before opening it to prevent dirt from entering the fuel system. Use the metal bail handle to remove the old element carefully, then remove and discard the old sealing grommets.
Install the new element with the correct grommets in place and confirm it seats properly in the housing. Reassemble the filter bowl or cover according to the service procedure, prime and bleed the fuel system as required, then check carefully for leaks before returning the engine to service.
