When This Part Needs Replacement
Replace the gasket whenever the heat exchanger end cap is removed. A used gasket may be compressed, hardened, swollen, cracked, torn, or distorted and may not reseal correctly after disassembly.
This gasket should also be replaced if there is water dripping from the end cap, salt residue around the cover, coolant or raw-water staining, corrosion trails, loss of pressure, or leakage after heat exchanger cleaning.
Installation Notes
Clean the end plate, heat exchanger shell, gasket groove, and center-bolt sealing area before installing the new gasket. Remove old gasket material carefully without gouging bronze, copper-nickel, aluminum, or painted sealing surfaces.
Inspect the end cap, zinc anode, retaining bolt or stud, tube bundle face, and sealing land before reassembly. Tighten the center fastener evenly enough to seal the gasket without crushing or distorting the end plate. After startup, check the end cap for leaks once the cooling system is under normal operating temperature and pressure.
