When This Part Needs Replacement
Replace the end cover plate if it is grooved, scored, pitted, warped, cracked, corroded, or leaking around the cover gasket. A worn cover plate can reduce pump efficiency by allowing water to bypass around the impeller face, which may contribute to weak raw-water flow, overheating, or poor pump priming.
It should also be inspected during every impeller service, especially if the impeller failed, ran dry, or shed vanes.
Installation Notes
Remove the old cover and inspect the impeller, gasket, screws, cam, pump body, shaft seal area, and wear surfaces before reassembly. Clean the cover sealing surface and remove old gasket material without scratching the pump body.
Install with the correct gasket or sealing arrangement for the pump model. Tighten the cover screws evenly so the plate seats flat against the pump body. After service, run the engine with proper water supply and confirm strong raw-water flow, no cover leakage, and normal engine temperature.
