Sea Dog Premium Double-Braid Nylon Anchor Line – 1/2" x 60' | Gold/White
A step up from standard twisted nylon, this premium double-braided anchor line delivers superior handling, a softer feel, and better abrasion resistance for everyday anchoring use. The 100% nylon construction stretches under load to absorb shock from wave action and wind gusts, protecting your cleat, bow fitting, and anchor from snatch forces. The gold and white color makes it easy to identify in a crowded anchor locker or on deck.
Key Features
- 100% premium double-braided nylon — stronger, softer, and more abrasion-resistant than 3-strand twisted rope
- Shock-absorbing stretch — nylon elasticity reduces snatch loads on cleats, bow fittings, and the anchor itself
- Medium lay, soft feel — easy to handle, coil, and feed through a windlass or bow roller
- 304 stainless steel thimble — protects the splice eye from chafe and corrosion at the anchor connection point
- Professionally spliced and yacht-whipped — clean, secure termination at the thimble end; no knot required
- Packaged on a dispense spool — tangle-free deployment straight from the package
- Gold/White color — easy to identify and coordinate with your anchoring setup
Best Use Case
The 60' length is best suited as a short-scope anchor line for smaller boats (under 22 ft) anchoring in shallow, protected waters — or as a secondary anchor line for a stern anchor or kedge. For primary anchoring on larger vessels or deeper anchorages, consider the 1/2" x 100' version or the 1/2" x 250' Gold/White anchor line for extended scope. Pair with a 5/16" galvanized anchor shackle to connect the thimble eye to your anchor.
Parts Desk Insights
- Double-braid nylon is the preferred choice over 3-strand for boats with windlasses — it feeds more smoothly through a capstan and is less prone to kinking when flaked back into the locker.
- The 304 stainless thimble is corrosion-resistant but not fully immune to rust in prolonged saltwater exposure. Inspect the thimble annually and replace the line if rust staining or groove wear is visible at the splice.
- Yacht whipping at the splice point prevents the braid from unraveling at the thimble — a sign of quality finishing that extends the working life of the splice.
- 60' of 1/2" line provides a 5:1 scope in 12 feet of water — adequate for calm, protected anchorages but insufficient for open water or overnight use. Size up to 100' or longer for more versatile anchoring.
- Nylon anchor lines should be rinsed with fresh water after saltwater use and stored dry to prevent mildew and UV degradation at the core fibers.
