The Shakespeare Galaxy 5230 is a 14 ft, 2-piece VHF marine antenna designed for long-range communication on larger boats where an 8dB antenna is appropriate. It uses a 5/8 wave over 1/2 wave dipole design with brass and copper elements, a heavy-duty fiberglass body, and Shakespeare’s high-gloss Galaxy white finish for marine durability. The 2-piece construction makes the antenna easier to ship and handle while still providing the signal capture area expected from a full 14 ft VHF antenna.

Engine Compatibility
This is a marine VHF antenna and is not engine-specific. It is intended for boats using compatible VHF marine radios with a standard VHF antenna connection. The 8dB gain and 14 ft length make it best suited to larger boats, hardtop installations, flybridge setups, sportfish boats, cruisers, and other applications where a taller antenna and longer-range VHF performance are preferred.
Serial Number Fitment Notice
Marine antennas do not use engine serial-number fitment, but installation compatibility should still be confirmed before ordering. Check the boat’s VHF radio connection, mounting location, cable routing, clearance, antenna height requirements, and mount style. This antenna uses a standard 1"-14 threaded ferrule and is commonly paired with Shakespeare 409-R or 410-R mounting kits.
When This Part Needs Replacement
Replace the antenna if the fiberglass body is cracked, UV-damaged, water-intruded, physically broken, or if the ferrule, coax, or connector is corroded or damaged. Weak VHF range, intermittent transmission, poor reception, or high SWR readings can also point to antenna or cable issues after the radio and connections have been checked.
Installation Notes
Mount the antenna as high and clear as practical for best VHF performance. Route the coax carefully to avoid sharp bends, pinch points, chafe, and unnecessary cable stress. Use a compatible heavy-duty 1"-14 marine antenna mount, verify connector installation, and keep the antenna clear of nearby metal obstructions or other antennas where possible.
