What is Retroreflective Tape?
Retroreflective tape contains microscopic glass beads or prismatic elements that reflect light directly back to its source, making it appear extremely bright when illuminated by searchlights, flashlights, or other directed light sources. This is far more effective than standard reflective materials, which scatter light in all directions. SOLAS-grade retroreflective tape is specifically engineered to maintain performance in wet, saltwater conditions and extreme temperatures.
Installation Instructions:
- Clean Surface - Thoroughly clean and dry the application surface
- Measure & Cut - Measure required length and cut tape with sharp scissors
- Remove Backing - Peel away protective backing from adhesive side
- Apply Firmly - Press tape onto surface, working from center outward to eliminate air bubbles
- Seal Edges - Press edges firmly to ensure complete adhesion
- Allow to Cure - Let adhesive cure for 24 hours before exposure to water
- Optional Sewing - For fabric applications, sew along both edges for permanent attachment
Maintenance:
Inspect retroreflective tape regularly for damage, peeling, or loss of reflectivity. Clean with mild soap and water to maintain maximum reflective performance. Replace tape if it becomes damaged, loses adhesion, or shows reduced reflectivity. SOLAS regulations require retroreflective materials on life-saving equipment to be maintained in good condition at all times.
