The 3887580 secures the oil-level dipstick pipe in its correct position within the engine lubrication assembly. Serial Number Notice
Earlier engines used 3583624 in both positions. Later service information splits that into 3887580 (dipstick side) and 3887581 (plugged side). Always confirm against your engine serial number and the correct lubricating-system diagram before ordering.
When to Replace
- Retainer is bent, distorted, or cracked
- Corrosion has weakened the retaining function
- Oil pipe is no longer held securely in position
- Retainer was damaged during sump, dipstick, or lubrication-system service
A damaged retainer can allow unwanted movement of the oil-level pipe and associated fittings.
Installation Notes
- Install 3887580 on the dipstick side only — use 3887581 at the plugged-side position
- On later D4 configurations, inspect neighboring retainer 3886957, nipple 3886951, and guide 22456382 while the assembly is accessible
