The Scotty 441 Backing Plate is a simple but essential piece of hardware for anyone mounting a Scotty rod holder to a kayak, canoe, or any thin-walled watercraft. Without a backing plate, mounting screws can pull through or crack thin hull material under load. This plate spreads that load across a wider surface area, giving your mount a secure, long-lasting hold even on the thinnest decks and gunwales.
Made from reinforced nylon that won't corrode, warp, or degrade in the marine environment. Stainless steel nuts and machine screws are included so you have everything you need to complete the install.

Best Use Case: This backing plate is a must-have for kayak and canoe anglers mounting any Scotty 241 or 244 series mount directly to the hull or deck. Thin rotomolded polyethylene hulls — the most common kayak material — are particularly prone to screw pull-through under the lateral stress of a loaded rod holder. Adding this plate is cheap insurance that protects both your boat and your gear. It's also a good call on older fiberglass hulls where the laminate may have thinned over time.
Installation Note: The backing plate installs on the interior side of the hull or deck, sandwiching the material between the plate and the mount. All hardware is included.
