Fuel Leaks Are Not Guesswork

Replace cracked hoses, leaking fittings, loose clamps, contaminated filters, damaged flame arrestors, and suspect fuel pumps promptly. Use parts rated for marine fuel service.

After any fuel-system work, inspect for leaks, fumes, chafe, clamp security, and proper ventilation before starting the engine.

Contaminated fuel, restricted filters, aging hoses, weak pumps, clogged vents, and dirty flame arrestors can cause hard starting, stalling, poor acceleration, and unsafe fuel leaks.

Change filtersReplace filters and water-separator elements on schedule or after contamination.

Fuel & Air System Questions

How often should marine fuel filters be replaced?

Follow the engine manual, but many boaters replace fuel filters at least annually or when contamination, water, hard starting, or performance problems appear.

What does a fuel/water separator do?

A fuel/water separator helps remove water and debris from fuel before it reaches the engine, reducing risk of corrosion, poor running, injector issues, and carburetor problems.

Can I use automotive fuel hose on a boat?

No. Use marine-rated fuel hose that meets the correct fuel, permeation, fire, and installation requirements for the application.

What is a flame arrestor?

A flame arrestor is an intake safety device on gasoline inboard engines that helps prevent flame from escaping the intake in a backfire event while allowing airflow.
