Service Interval

Replace at every engine oil change — typically every 100 hours of operation or once per season, whichever comes first. More frequent changes may be appropriate for engines operating under heavy load, extended hours, or severe conditions. Always follow your engine manufacturer's maintenance schedule.

Installation

  1. Run the engine briefly to warm the oil, then shut it down and allow oil to drain per the service procedure.
  2. Remove the old filter and confirm the old gasket did not remain on the mounting surface.
  3. Clean the filter mounting surface.
  4. Lightly coat the new filter gasket with clean engine oil.
  5. Install by hand and tighten per the engine manufacturer's specification — do not over-tighten.
  6. Refill with the correct marine engine oil, run the engine, check oil pressure, and inspect for leaks.
  7. Recheck oil level after shutdown.

Parts Desk Insights

Best Use Case: This is one of the most common short GM-style marine oil filters, covering a wide range of older and current GM-based inboard and sterndrive engines. It's a staple for seasonal oil changes on MerCruiser, Volvo Penta, Crusader, and Indmar powered boats.

Common Questions: Matching the existing OEM filter number remains the safest way to confirm the correct fit, especially on engines equipped with remote oil-filter brackets — which may require a different filter height or thread. If you're unsure, contact us with your engine make, model, and serial number and we'll confirm the right filter before you order.
