When This Part Needs Replacement
Replace this oil seal if gear lubricant is leaking from the propeller shaft or bearing carrier area, water is found in the gear lube, the seal lip is hardened or damaged, or the bearing carrier has been removed during lower-unit service. It should also be inspected after fishing line, corrosion, debris, propeller shaft wear, or pressure/vacuum test failure is found at the propeller shaft area.
Installation Notes
Inspect the propeller shaft sealing surface, bearing carrier bore, carrier O-rings, related seals, drain and vent screw gaskets, and gear lubricant condition during service. A grooved, pitted, or corroded propeller shaft can damage a new seal and cause repeat leakage. On Bravo applications, inspect related seal 26-814242 where it is shown in the same bearing carrier or propeller shaft sealing diagram. After seal replacement, pressure/vacuum test the drive before refilling with gear lubricant.
