Fitment Notice
Match this kit to your pump model number, not the engine model alone. Johnson Pump F-series pumps are used across a wide range of diesel and petrol marine engines, and different pump variants use different service kit configurations. The pump number is typically marked on the pump housing or listed in your engine’s parts manual.
If you are unsure of the pump model, confirm the impeller number in your pump. This kit includes the 810B-1 impeller — match that number to the impeller currently fitted before ordering.
Service Interval
Johnson Pump recommends inspecting flexible impeller pumps at least annually and servicing them based on condition. As a general guideline:
- Inspect the impeller at every season start
- Replace the impeller at the first sign of cracking, hardening, missing blades, or reduced output
- Service seals, O-rings, and gaskets whenever the pump is opened for impeller replacement
- Replace the ball bearing when roughness, noise, or wobble is detected
- Service the complete pump if it has run dry or overheated
A full service kit makes it practical to replace all wear items in a single visit rather than sourcing components individually.
Installation Notes
- Close the raw-water intake seacock before disassembly
- Remove the pump cover and extract the old impeller — inspect all blades and locate any missing pieces before proceeding
- If blade fragments are missing, flush and inspect all downstream cooling passages and the heat exchanger before reassembling
- Replace all seals, O-rings, and gaskets included in the kit — do not reuse old sealing components
- Inspect the pump housing bore and cam for scoring or wear; replace the housing if damaged
- Press or seat the new ball bearing if bearing replacement is required
- Lubricate the new impeller with the included glycerine lubricant before fitting
- Rotate the shaft in the normal running direction while seating the impeller to pre-set vane direction
- Reassemble with new gaskets and confirm all fasteners are correctly torqued
- Check for leaks and verify cooling-water flow at the exhaust outlet after startup

Parts Desk Insights
Best use case: The 09-45587 kit is the right choice when you’re already in the pump for impeller replacement and want to address all the wear items in one service — particularly for pumps with high hours or any history of running dry. Buying the full kit is almost always more cost-effective than sourcing seals, O-rings, and a bearing separately, and it ensures all sealing surfaces are renewed at the same time.
Common issue: The most frequent problem is ordering a service kit by engine model rather than pump model number. Johnson Pump makes several F-series pump variants that look similar but use different kits. Always confirm the pump number (10-24074, 10-24099, 10-24144, 10-24319, 10-35127, or 10-35271) before ordering. If any impeller blades are missing, do not run the engine until the fragments have been located and removed from the cooling circuit.
