Epifanes Wood Finish Matte — 1 Litre (WFM1000)
Epifanes Wood Finish Matte is a one-part urethane alkyd and tung oil finish specifically formulated for oily tropical hardwoods like teak and iroko — species that are notoriously difficult to coat because their natural oils resist adhesion. The urethane alkyd and tung oil combination penetrates and bonds where standard varnishes struggle, delivering long-lasting protection with a rich amber tone and a beautiful matte finish that lets the natural character of the wood take centre stage.
Wood Finish Matte is designed to be used as the final topcoat over a build-up of Epifanes Clear Gloss Varnish coats — the gloss base builds film thickness and UV protection, while the matte topcoat delivers the reduced-sheen finish. It can also be used as a standalone finish on interior and exterior wood above the waterline.

Parts Desk Insights
Best Use Case: Wood Finish Matte is the go-to choice for teak and iroko surfaces where you want a natural, low-sheen appearance that complements the wood’s character rather than covering it with a high-gloss film. It’s particularly popular on teak toerails and handrails where owners prefer the look of a well-oiled, matte finish over a glossy varnish. The recommended approach is to build 3–4 coats of Epifanes Clear Gloss Varnish first to establish film thickness and UV protection, then finish with 1–2 coats of Wood Finish Matte for the final appearance. This gives you the durability of a full varnish system with the matte look you want. For a satin sheen in a faster-application format, consider the Epifanes Rapid Clear Satin instead. Add Epifanes Easy-Flow in hot or cold conditions to improve leveling and extend open time.
