Replace the skeg anode on your Mercury outboard with this aluminum-alloy unit from Martyr Anodes. The skeg anode mounts to the lower unit skeg — the fin at the bottom of the gearcase — and provides sacrificial protection for the lower unit housing and surrounding hardware against galvanic corrosion.
Aluminum is the most versatile anode alloy, performing reliably in both saltwater and brackish environments. It is also the preferred alloy for outboard lower units, as it provides effective protection without the risk of accelerated corrosion on aluminum gearcase components that zinc can cause in some conditions.

Inspect the skeg anode at every haulout and replace when worn to approximately 50% of original size. The skeg anode is one of the most exposed positions on an outboard lower unit — in high-galvanic marina environments, inspect more frequently as depletion can be faster than expected.
