Martyr Magnesium Anode Kit for MerCruiser Bravo II & III — Freshwater
A complete set of sacrificial anodes for MerCruiser Bravo II and early Bravo III sterndrives, formulated in magnesium alloy for freshwater use. This kit covers the three primary corrosion exposure points on the Bravo II/III drive — trim tab, driveshaft housing, and trim rams — so you can complete a full anode service in one order.
Magnesium is the correct alloy for freshwater environments, where zinc and aluminum anodes are too electrochemically passive to provide adequate protection. If you operate in saltwater or brackish water, see the aluminum alternative linked below.
Kit Contents

Service Interval
Replace all anodes at each annual haulout, or when any individual anode has worn to approximately 50% of its original size — whichever comes first. Magnesium anodes in freshwater typically deplete at a moderate rate; inspect annually and replace as a complete set for consistent protection.
Parts Desk Insights
This kit is the correct choice for Bravo II and early Bravo III drives kept in freshwater lakes and rivers. The most common mistake we see is customers installing zinc anodes in freshwater — zinc doesn’t corrode fast enough in low-conductivity water to provide meaningful protection, leaving the drive hardware exposed. Note that the Bravo II/III kit contains three anodes, not four — there is no bearing carrier anode in this configuration, which is correct for these drives. If your boat moves between fresh and salt water, the aluminum CMBRAVO23KITA kit is the more versatile option. Replace all anodes together as a set for consistent protection across the full service interval.
