West System 655-423 Graphite Powder Epoxy Additive

Give your epoxy coating a performance edge. West System Graphite Powder is a very fine black powder additive mixed directly into epoxy resin and hardener to create a low-friction, mar-resistant exterior coating surface. The result is a tough, scuff-resistant finish that holds up to abrasion and contact β€” without the need for a separate antifouling paint.

Mixed into West System C105A Epoxy Resin at up to 10% by volume (or up to 8 fl. oz. per epoxy mix), graphite powder transforms a standard epoxy coat into a durable, low-drag surface coating. It is not an antifoulant and does not replace bottom paint where biofouling protection is required.

Key Features

  • Creates a low-friction, low-drag exterior coating surface
  • Increases scuff and mar resistance of cured epoxy
  • Ideal for rudders, centerboards, and dry-sailed racing craft bottoms
  • Can be used on teak deck construction to simulate traditional caulking and protect resin from UV
  • Mix at up to 10% by volume or 8 fl. oz. per epoxy batch
  • Not an antifoulant β€” does not replace bottom paint for vessels kept in the water

Parts Desk Insights

Best Use Case: Recommend this to racing sailors and performance boatbuilders looking to reduce hull drag on dry-sailed boats β€” particularly on rudders, daggerboards, and centerboards where a smooth, low-friction surface directly affects speed. It’s also a practical choice for teak deck work where customers want to protect the epoxy from UV degradation while achieving a dark caulking-line appearance. Pair with West System C105A Epoxy Resin and the appropriate hardener. Remind customers this is not an antifouling product β€” boats kept in the water still need a separate bottom paint system.
