The Seachoice 28301 is a heavy-duty rubber boot designed to fit over the output end of the steering cable at the engine — protecting the cable end from water, salt, and contamination while keeping lubrication in place. Without a boot, the exposed cable end at the engine is subject to corrosion and lubricant washout, which leads to stiff, binding steering over time. The 28301 fits all standard steering cables including Morse, Teleflex, and Detmar, making it a universal maintenance item for cable steering systems.

Best Use Case: The 28301 is the correct boot when the rubber boot on your steering cable end at the engine is cracked, torn, or missing — a very common maintenance item on older cable steering systems where the original boot has hardened and split from UV and saltwater exposure. The boot serves two functions: it keeps water and salt away from the cable end and engine connection, and it keeps the cable lubrication from being washed away by spray and rain. Without it, the cable end corrodes and the lubrication washes out quickly, leading to stiff or binding steering. The 10" extended length with 3-1/2" minimum compressed length accommodates the full range of cable travel at the engine.
