Seachoice 28261 Steering Guard β Stainless Steel, Cable & Hydraulic Steering Systems
The Seachoice 28261 Steering Guard is a stainless steel protective fitting designed to install on cable and side-mount hydraulic steering systems. It lubricates, cleans, and seals the steering rod at the engine connection point β protecting the rod from corrosion, contamination, and wear that shortens the life of cable and hydraulic steering systems.
For the 7/8" thread version compatible with Honda, Mercury, Mariner, Johnson, Evinrude, Nissan, Suzuki, Tohatsu, Yamaha, and Force engines, see the Seachoice 28251 Steering Guard.

Parts Desk Insights
Best Use Case: The 28261 Steering Guard serves the same protective function as the 28251 β lubricating, cleaning, and sealing the steering rod at the engine to extend system life and eliminate exposed, corroding steering rods. It is particularly valuable on saltwater boats where exposed steering rods corrode quickly and cause stiff, binding steering. The 28261 is best installed on a new or recently serviced steering system rather than on a system with an already corroded or worn rod. Before ordering, confirm the thread size of this unit matches your engineβs steering rod thread β the product listing does not specify a thread size, and using the wrong size will result in an incompatible fit. If your engine is on the 28251 compatibility list (Honda, Mercury, Mariner, Johnson, Evinrude, Nissan, Suzuki, Tohatsu, Yamaha, or Force with 7/8" thread), the 28251 is the confirmed-fit option.
