What causes a marine engine to overheat?

Common causes include worn impellers, clogged strainers, blocked heat exchangers, failing thermostats, soft hoses, weak pumps, low coolant, exhaust restrictions, or air leaks on the intake side.

Should gaskets and O-rings be replaced during cooling service?
