When This Part Needs Replacement
Replace the coolant pump if the engine is overheating, coolant circulation is weak, the pump leaks, the bearing is noisy, the shaft has play, the pulley area is damaged, or coolant loss is traced to the pump body or seal area. A worn coolant pump can cause rising engine temperature even when the coolant level, thermostat, radiator, heat exchanger, or seawater side appears serviceable.
Installation Notes
Inspect the full cooling-pump assembly before replacing the pump alone. Check the rear pump cover, O-rings, plastic plug, flange screws, coolant filter, pipe connections, pulley, hose connections, and surrounding sealing surfaces. Refill with the correct coolant and bleed the cooling system fully after installation. Some diagram references note that coolant filter 21192875 should not be used together with Volvo Penta VCS yellow coolant, so coolant type should be verified during service.
