Part Details

  • Part Number: 3863191
  • Brand: Volvo Penta
  • Official Product Type: Exhaust Elbow & Riser Gasket Kit
  • Supersedes: 3850496 • 351325 • OMC 909786
  • Replaced By: 3863191 is the current active part number
  • Engine Family: Volvo Penta V6 and V8 gasoline, 1994 and newer, centre-rise exhaust manifold applications
  • System: Marine exhaust — seals the exhaust elbow or riser to the manifold, keeping cooling water and exhaust gases within their separate passages
  • Diagram Position: Item 11 in applicable DPX375-CF inlet and exhaust system schematics
  • Exhaust Style: Centre-rise, 4 in. (101.6 mm) riser arrangement

Kit Contents

  • 2 × Volvo Penta Riser Gasket — 3862652
  • 1 × Installation instruction sheet

One kit provides two gaskets. Confirm the required quantity for the engine’s exhaust arrangement before beginning service.

Compatible Applications

Fitment depends on the exact engine model, production range, manifold type, and exhaust-riser configuration. Confirm against the engine serial number and the Volvo Penta exhaust diagram before ordering.

  • 4.3GL / 4.3Gi / 4.3GXi / 4.3OSi (selected versions, 1994+)
  • 5.0GL / 5.0GXi / 5.0OSi (selected versions)
  • 5.7Gi / 5.7GL / 5.7GXi / 5.7OSi / 5.7OSXi (selected versions)
  • 8.1Gi / 8.1GSi / 8.1GXi (selected versions)
  • V6-200 / V6-225 (selected versions)
  • V8-270 / V8-300 / V8-320 (selected versions)
  • DPX375 and DPX420 propulsion packages (selected versions)

Serial Number Fitment Notice

Similar Volvo Penta engines may use different open, restricted, or blocked-passage gasket designs. Match the gasket openings and water-passage layout against the manifold diagram — do not select solely by engine displacement. Confirm the complete engine designation and serial number before ordering.

When This Part Needs Replacement

Install new gaskets any time an exhaust elbow or riser is removed — exhaust gaskets should never be reused after the joint has been separated. Also replace when inspection reveals:

  • Water or exhaust leakage at the manifold joint
  • Rust or staining around the gasket seam
  • A ticking or hissing exhaust leak
  • A crushed, hardened, or delaminated gasket
  • Internal water-track marks across the sealing surface
  • Corrosion or carbon buildup during elbow inspection

Installation Notes

Allow the engine to cool completely before disassembly. Remove all old gasket material without damaging the manifold or elbow sealing faces. Inspect both mating surfaces for corrosion, pitting, erosion, and warpage before fitting the new gaskets.

Ensure each gasket is installed in the correct orientation so its water and exhaust passages align with the manifold. Follow the Volvo Penta workshop procedure for gasket placement, fastener sequence, and torque values. Recheck for cooling-water and exhaust leakage after startup.

View the Volvo Penta inlet and exhaust schematic to confirm diagram position and gasket orientation.

Parts Desk Insight

Gasket orientation matters on a wet marine exhaust system — a gasket installed with the water passage misaligned can restrict coolant flow or allow water into the exhaust passage, which causes problems that aren’t always obvious until the engine overheats. Old gaskets can look usable after teardown, but they’ve already compressed and should never go back in. Always check the water-passage layout against the diagram before assembly, not after.
