When This Part Needs Replacement
Replace the exhaust elbow when inspection reveals any of the following:
- Internal or external corrosion
- Cracking or impact damage
- Burn-through or exhaust-gas leakage
- Damaged hose-connection surfaces
- Heavy internal carbon or scale accumulation
- Distortion preventing proper exhaust-hose alignment
- Water or soot staining around the connections
Any evidence of water entering the exhaust passage should be investigated immediately to protect the engine from internal corrosion or water ingestion damage.
Installation Notes
Install on clean, flat mating surfaces using a new gasket from kit 3863191 — do not reuse the old gasket. Inspect connecting exhaust hoses, bellows, clamps, pipes, and mounting hardware while the elbow is removed. Replace hardened, cracked, or heat-damaged rubber components and any clamps that are corroded or unable to maintain tension.
