When This Part Needs Replacement
Replace this sealing ring if gear oil is leaking from the propeller shaft area, water is found in the gear lubricant, the seal lip is hardened, cut, distorted, or worn, or the seal is removed during lower gear housing service. It should also be inspected after fishing line, debris, or propeller shaft corrosion is found behind the propeller hardware.
Installation Notes
Inspect the propeller shaft sealing surface, bearing carrier, seal bore, shaft condition, propeller hardware, and related O-rings before installing the new seal. A grooved, pitted, or corroded shaft can damage the new seal and cause repeat leakage. On DuoProp drives, inspect the related outer propeller shaft seal 853808 and surrounding hardware at the same time. After resealing, pressure/vacuum test the drive before refilling with gear lubricant.
