Identify the engine you have

Use the complete identification to select the correct generation, diagram and replacement part.

Carbureted / EFI / MPI

Legacy 502 versions have separate carburetor and injection assemblies. Mercury identifies selected carbureted Weber applications, but no single kit fits the whole family.

502 MAG MPI / MIE 8.2 MPI

The documented sterndrive 502 MAG MPI and MIE 8.2 MPI inboard entries have separate catalogue identities and installation equipment.

Generation & propulsion

Use the full legacy 502 designation, cooling arrangement and drive or marine-gear identification. Displacement alone does not identify the correct engine generation.

Later 8.2 MAG / HO, 496 / 8.1L and Mercury Racing applications do not share a fitment promise with this legacy family.

Send the complete engine-plate details and clear old-part photos. Match the installed fuel and cooling equipment, and include the separate drive or marine-gear plate when asking about those assemblies.
