Before selecting parts
Identify the engine you have
Use the complete identification to select the correct generation, diagram and replacement part.
7.4L / 454 Magnum
Standard 7.4L and carbureted 454 Magnum engines have separate model identities and specifications. A 454 displacement marking is insufficient for a parts match.
Fuel, ignition & cooling
Match the installed carburetor, distributor, cooling and exhaust components to the exact production version and serial-specific catalogue.
MCM / MIE installation
MCM sterndrive and MIE inboard packages require separate equipment selection. Identify the drive or marine gear independently.
7.4 MPI, 7.4LX EFI/MPI, 454 MAG EFI/MPI, 502/8.2L and 496/8.1L require their own exact catalogue selections.
Send the complete engine-plate details and clear old-part photos. Match the installed fuel and cooling equipment, and include the separate drive or marine-gear plate when asking about those assemblies.
Documented installations
Boat examples
These examples describe documented engine options or installations. Boats may have been repowered or modified; an example does not establish present-day parts compatibility.
1995 Cobalt 220 / 272
The factory table lists 7.4L, 300 hp Bravo I/III packages and a separate 454 MAG, 350 hp Bravo I option.
