Early & later generations

Early D3 engines differ from the redesigned range introduced in 2010. Volvo distinguishes A–C and D–H generations in its accessory application information; keep the exact suffix.

Installed fuel & controls

Common-rail equipment, electrical controls and engine construction vary by generation. Match the complete designation and serial number.

Propulsion & cooling

Aquamatic SX, DPS and OceanX installations differ from shaft installations with a marine gear. Identify the actual drive or gear and cooling layout.

A shared D3 prefix or power badge does not establish interchangeability between early and later generations.

Send the complete engine-plate details and clear old-part photos. Match the installed fuel and cooling equipment, and include the separate drive or marine-gear plate when asking about those assemblies.
