Volvo Penta
D6 engine parts
D6 diesel / shaft / Aquamatic / IPS
Find service and replacement parts for Volvo Penta D6 5.5-litre inline-six marine diesels. D6 engines span several generations and propulsion packages. Start with the complete engine designation, product number and serial number, then identify the installed drive or marine gear.

Before selecting parts
Identify the engine you have
Use the complete identification to select the correct generation, diagram and replacement part.
Generation & full suffix
The D6 was introduced in 2003 and substantially updated in 2019. Match the complete suffix and serial number before selecting fuel, cooling, electrical or internal-engine assemblies. Not every D6 uses the same charging equipment.
Aquamatic & shaft installations
DPH and DPI sterndrives are distinct packages. A shaft installation also needs the marine-gear identification. Use the separate drive, transom or gear plate when selecting those components.
IPS installations
Identify the engine and IPS drive separately. An IPS package number is not an engine horsepower rating. Confirm the installed engine and drive serial numbers for their respective parts.
A shared D6 family name does not establish interchangeability across generations, power ratings, DPH, DPI, IPS or shaft installations.
Send both plates when asking about propulsion or cooling hardware: the complete D6 engine plate and the drive or marine-gear plate. Full designations are more useful than a boat model or package badge.
Documented installations
Boat examples
These examples describe documented engine options or installations. Boats may have been repowered or modified; an example does not establish present-day parts compatibility.

Marell M15
A documented twin D6-440 DPI installation.
Sōlace 415CS
A documented twin D6 Aquamatic package.
