Use the complete identification to select the correct generation, diagram and replacement part.

6LYA / 6LY2A

These earlier mechanical generations include different engine sizes and equipment. Preserve the exact model, suffix and serial number.

6LY3 / 6LY common rail

6LY3 uses electronically controlled direct injection. Later 6LY400 and 6LY440 are a distinct common-rail generation; electronic control alone does not identify the injection system.

Installation & electronic parts

Match cooling and gear or waterjet equipment to the actual installation. Common-rail injector or ECU work requires the exact engine identity and the appropriate service procedure.

Leisure, commercial and common-rail variants do not inherit shared ratings or parts compatibility from a 6LY prefix.

Send the complete engine-plate details and clear old-part photos. Match the installed fuel and cooling equipment, and include the separate drive or marine-gear plate when asking about those assemblies.
