The DC003 is the right cap for MerCruiser V8 MPI engines running the 555 ECM — a common configuration in 5.0L, 5.7L, and 6.2L sterndrives and inboards from the late 1990s through the mid-2000s. It’s the go-to replacement when an MPI engine is showing hard-start, misfire, or rough idle symptoms and the cap shows visible cracks, carbon tracking, or corroded terminals. Always replace the rotor at the same time — caps and rotors wear together and should be serviced as a pair. If your engine uses a Thunderbolt IV or V HEI ignition rather than the Delco HVS system, the Arco DC001 is the correct cap for that application.
