MerCruiser V6 and V8 engines use more than one seawater pump design across model years. The brass pump and older-style pump use different impellers that are not interchangeable. Confirm all of the following before ordering:

- Brass engine-mounted seawater pump is fitted (not the older-style pump)

Service Interval
Inspect the impeller annually at season launch or every 200–300 hours. Replace immediately if any of the following are observed:
- Reduced or absent cooling-water flow at the exhaust outlet
- Engine overheating during operation
- Vanes cracked, missing, hardened, or permanently set
- Evidence the pump has run dry
- Hub wear or shaft slippage
If any vane material is missing, inspect all downstream cooling passages, heat exchangers, oil coolers, and power-steering coolers before installing a new impeller — fragments cause blockages and repeat overheating events.
