Restore precise throttle response and fuel management to your inboard engine with this OEM-grade replacement throttle position sensor from ARCO. The throttle position sensor (TPS) is a critical input for your engine’s electronic control module — it tells the ECM exactly where the throttle plate is at any given moment, enabling accurate fuel delivery, smooth acceleration, and proper idle control. When it fails, you’ll typically see rough idle, hesitation, erratic RPM, or a check engine condition.

ARCO’s TP001 is engineered as a direct OEM replacement for GM 5.7L and 6.2L MPI inboard engines used across MerCruiser, Volvo Penta, and OMC Stern Drive applications from 1997 onward. It installs in the factory location with no modification required.

  • Direct OEM replacement — plug-and-play installation, no modification required
  • Restores accurate throttle position signaling to the engine control module
  • Resolves rough idle, hesitation, erratic RPM, and throttle-related fault codes
  • Fits GM 5.7L and 6.2L MPI inboard engines (1997 and up)
  • Compatible with MerCruiser, Volvo Penta, and OMC Stern Drive applications

Parts Desk Insights

Best Use Case: This is the correct replacement when diagnosing throttle-related driveability issues on GM-based MPI inboard engines — specifically rough or unstable idle, flat spots during acceleration, or an engine that hunts for RPM at cruise. Before replacing, confirm the fault with a scan tool showing TPS voltage out of range or erratic signal. The TP001 is a straightforward swap: disconnect the harness, remove two screws, install the new sensor, and set the throttle plate to closed before tightening. No special tools required. If symptoms persist after replacement, inspect the throttle body bore and plate for carbon buildup, which can cause similar symptoms.
