Blue Sea Systems Surface Mount Circuit Breaker — 80A
The BSS-7142 is an 80A surface mount DC circuit breaker built for mid-to-high current marine applications. It mounts directly to a bulkhead, battery box, or engine room surface without requiring a panel cutout, and provides automatic overcurrent protection with a manual reset. At 80 amps it covers the gap between branch-circuit breakers and full main-bus protection — the right size for windlass feeds, large pump motors, and sub-panel mains on smaller vessels.

Best use case: The BSS-7142 is the mid-range workhorse of the surface mount breaker line. It’s most commonly used as a windlass or thruster main on smaller vessels, or as a sub-panel feed breaker where you need more than 30A but don’t need the full 200A of the BSS-7149. The surface-mount format is ideal for engine room and bilge installations where space is tight and a traditional panel-mount breaker isn’t practical.
If your load exceeds 80A, step up to the BSS-7149 200A surface mount breaker. For lower-current surface-mount protection, the BSS-7136 30A is the step down. If you need a panel-mount format at similar amperage, the BSS-7549 100A rocker breaker is the closest equivalent.
