The Cobra CPI2500W PRO 2500W inverter converts power from a 12-volt battery bank into 115-volt AC power for tools, electronics and medium-to-large appliances. It supplies 2,500 watts of continuous modified sine wave output and up to 5,000 watts of peak power, with four GFCI-protected AC outlets plus USB-A and USB-C fast-charging ports. This high-output model is intended for direct battery connection and includes four 48-inch #4 AWG power cables.

Modified Sine Wave Notice
The CPI2500W produces modified sine wave power rather than utility-grade pure sine wave power. Cobra states that this model is not suitable for equipment that specifically requires pure sine wave output.
Equipment that may require a pure sine wave inverter includes:
- Medical equipment
- Sensitive audio and communications equipment
- Certain electronically controlled appliances
- Variable-speed motors
- Some battery chargers
- Digital timing equipment
- Appliances whose manufacturer specifies pure sine wave AC
Confirm the connected equipment’s waveform requirements before use.
Battery and Cable Requirements
At its full 2,500-watt output, this inverter can draw approximately 230 amps or more from a 12-volt battery bank after conversion losses are considered. The installation requires:
- A battery bank with adequate capacity and discharge capability
- Very short, correctly sized DC cable runs
- Properly rated battery switches and terminals
- Overcurrent protection installed close to the battery
- Secure, clean and corrosion-free connections
- Adequate ventilation around the inverter
Cobra includes four 48-inch #4 AWG cables, arranged as paired positive and negative conductors for the high-current connection. Follow the current Cobra installation instructions when routing and terminating the cables.
Fitment Notice
The CPI2500W is designed for a nominal 12-volt battery system. Do not connect it to a 24-volt or 48-volt battery bank.
This is a high-current, direct-to-battery inverter. It cannot be operated through a cigarette-lighter or standard 12-volt accessory socket.
The inverter does not include:
- A battery
- A battery charger
- An automatic shore-power transfer switch
- A fuse holder
- Main battery fuses
- Permanent AC distribution equipment
- A remote controller
Cobra lists its remote on/off controller as a compatible optional accessory.
Installation Notes
Install the inverter in a dry, ventilated location protected from:
- Rain, spray and bilge water
- Battery gases
- Fuel vapours
- Excessive heat
- Combustible materials
- Loose equipment that could obstruct the cooling fans
Mount the inverter close enough to the battery bank to avoid excessive cable length and voltage drop. Install properly rated DC overcurrent protection near the battery, even though the required fuse holder and fuses are not supplied.
For marine use, the installation must follow applicable marine electrical standards and should be completed by a qualified technician. The CPI2500W is not a waterproof or ignition-protected inverter and should not be mounted in an engine space, fuel compartment or exposed location unless the installation conditions are specifically approved.
When This Product Needs Replacement
Inspect or replace the inverter if it:
- Repeatedly shuts down below its rated load
- No longer produces stable AC output
- Has damaged or heat-discoloured outlets
- Shows melted or loose DC terminals
- Produces smoke, unusual odour or excessive heat
- Has cooling fans that no longer operate when required
- Shows moisture intrusion or internal corrosion
- Repeatedly reports low voltage with a verified healthy battery bank
- Has damaged GFCI protection or USB ports
Before replacing the inverter, inspect the battery bank, fuses, cable size, terminal tightness, polarity and voltage drop under load.

Parts Desk Insight
A 2,500-watt inverter places a substantial load on a 12-volt electrical system. Battery-bank capacity, fuse rating, cable size and connection quality are as important as the inverter’s wattage rating. For sensitive electronics or equipment that requires household-quality AC power, select a pure sine wave inverter rather than this modified sine wave model.
