The GMR Fantom 56 is Garmin’s premium solid-state CHIRP radar system — a complete kit including the 5-foot open-array antenna and radar pedestal, ready to connect to a compatible Garmin GPSMAP chartplotter. It represents the top of Garmin’s open-array radar lineup, combining solid-state reliability with 60W of output power, MotionScope Doppler technology, and 72-nautical-mile range.
Solid-state CHIRP technology means no magnetron tube to warm up or eventually replace — the Fantom 56 is ready the moment you power it on, draws significantly less power than a comparable magnetron radar, and delivers superior target separation at close range. MotionScope uses Doppler processing to highlight moving targets in a distinct colour on the radar display, making it immediately clear which returns are vessels underway versus stationary objects — a meaningful safety advantage in busy shipping lanes, harbour approaches, and low-visibility conditions.
The 5-foot array balances beam sharpness and physical size, providing strong target resolution without the full footprint of a 6-foot array.
