Product Overview
The HydroWave H2 Bass is a complete electronic fishing sound system that reproduces underwater baitfish activity and feeding sounds through a submerged waterproof speaker. Using Tactile Sound Transmission (TST), the system delivers low-frequency vibration and sound through the water column — engaging the lateral line sense that bass and other predatory fish use to detect and locate prey. The H2 Bass includes 16 pre-programmed sound patterns tuned for bass fishing scenarios, five adjustable delay intervals, a 2.5-inch display, and an expansion port for additional sound programs.
- 16 pre-programmed bass-focused sound patterns
- 5 delay interval settings: 15, 30, 45, 60, and 120 seconds
- Underwater Tactile Sound Transmission (TST) speaker system
- 2.5-inch display for pattern and delay selection

How It Works
The H2 sends sound and vibration through the water using the waterproof TST speaker, which is typically mounted near the trolling motor or at the bow below the waterline. The low-frequency output travels through the water and is detected by the lateral line of nearby fish — the same sensory system fish use to locate prey. By reproducing the sounds of feeding activity and baitfish disturbance, the H2 is designed to trigger a competitive feeding response in bass and other predatory species.

When to Replace
- Display or controls stop functioning or become unreliable
- Underwater speaker or 14 ft cable is physically damaged or produces no output
- Unit no longer produces sound patterns after standard troubleshooting
- Electrical fault prevents reliable operation
Installation Notes
- Mount the H2 control unit in an accessible location at the bow or console where it can be operated while fishing
- Route the speaker cable securely toward the trolling motor or bow area, keeping it clear of propellers, hinges, sharp edges, and moving hardware
- Mount the waterproof speaker below the waterline — near the trolling motor is the most common location
- Secure the cable with the supplied cable ties at regular intervals to prevent chafing or snagging
- Power the unit from the trolling motor battery or a dedicated 12V source
- Test all 16 sound patterns and delay settings before use
Technical FAQ
What is the difference between the H2 Bass and the HydroWave Mini? The H2 is the full-size HydroWave system with a 2.5-inch display, 16 sound patterns, 5 delay settings, and an expansion port. The Mini is a smaller, simplified version. They are different products and not interchangeable.
What is the expansion port for? The expansion port allows additional HydroWave sound program modules to be connected, adding patterns beyond the 16 included in the H2 Bass. The KVD H2 expansion adds Kevin VanDam-designed patterns.
Where should the speaker be mounted? The most common location is near the trolling motor at the bow, below the waterline. It can also be mounted at other submerged locations on the hull as long as the speaker is in contact with the water and the cable routing is secure.
What power source does the H2 use? The H2 operates on 12V DC and is typically powered from the trolling motor battery or a dedicated onboard 12V source.

Parts Desk Insights
The H2 Bass is the full HydroWave system — not the Mini. The most common source of confusion is customers comparing the H2 to the smaller HydroWave Mini and not realizing they are different products at significantly different price points. When a customer asks about HydroWave, confirm which model they need before selling. The expansion port is a useful upsell opportunity — customers who fish KVD-style patterns often want the KVD H2 module to complement the 16 included patterns. Speaker mounting location is the most common installation question: position it near the trolling motor below the waterline for best results, and stress the importance of keeping the cable away from the prop.
