Anticorrosive Primer for Underwater Metal Surfaces and Antifouling Tie Coat — Gallon.
Interlux Primocon is an anticorrosive primer formulated for all underwater metal surfaces, including bare metal hulls, running gear, outboard lower units, and sterndrive housings. It creates a protective barrier that reduces pitting from galvanic corrosion and provides an excellent bonding surface for antifouling topcoats.
Primocon is also an effective tie coat primer over sanded fiberglass, improving adhesion of antifouling paint to the hull surface without affecting the color of the antifouling topcoat applied over it. A versatile, single-product solution for both metal priming and fiberglass antifouling preparation.
Key Features
- Anticorrosive primer for all underwater metal surfaces
- Reduces pitting from galvanic corrosion on bare metal hulls and running gear
- Excellent primer for antifouling paint over sanded fiberglass
- Color-neutral — will not affect the color of antifouling topcoat applied over it
- Suitable for bare metal hulls, running gear, outboard lower units, and sterndrive housings

Parts Desk Insights
Primocon is the right primer when you're applying antifouling paint to bare metal or when you need a reliable tie coat over sanded fiberglass. On metal surfaces, it's particularly important for aluminum hulls and outboard lower units where galvanic corrosion and pitting are a real concern — a proper primer coat significantly extends the life of the antifouling topcoat and protects the metal underneath. On fiberglass, it improves antifouling adhesion without the complexity of a full epoxy barrier coat system, making it a practical choice for boats that don't have a blister history but need better antifouling adhesion.
