Interlux VC® Performance Epoxy is a two-part epoxy bottom finish engineered for boats that want maximum hull speed without antifouling. It cures to a hard, smooth, abrasion-resistant white surface with a fluoro-microadditive that reduces drag — ideal for performance-oriented boats that are rack-stored, trailered, or used in fresh water where biofouling isn’t a concern.
This 2-Gallon Kit includes the base and converter (curing agent) in the correct ratio. Mix both components thoroughly before application and follow the Interlux technical data sheet for pot life, recoat windows, and surface preparation requirements.
Application note: VC® Performance Epoxy is a non-antifouling finish. It is not a substitute for antifouling paint on boats stored in the water full-time. If your boat lives on a mooring or in a slip, an antifouling system is required.
Compatible Applications
- Performance boats seeking a hard, low-friction racing bottom finish
- Rack-stored boats — the hard epoxy surface withstands repeated rack contact without damage
- Trailered boats — can be wet-sanded and buffed to a near-mirror finish for maximum speed
- Fresh-water use where a non-toxic, non-antifouling bottom finish is preferred
- Not suitable for boats stored continuously in the water where biofouling protection is required

Surface Preparation & System Notes
- All existing single-part antifouling paint must be fully removed before applying a 2-part epoxy system — compatibility between coating systems is critical
- New or bare fiberglass hulls should be primed with a compatible epoxy barrier coat before applying VC® Performance Epoxy — see the Interlux system recommendations for your hull material
- Consult the Interlux technical data sheet for substrate requirements, sanding grits, and intercoat timing
- Coverage varies with application method and the number of coats applied; calculate based on the area of your underwater hull
- Mix only what can be used within the pot life window — do not thin or remix after the pot life has been exceeded
Technical FAQ
Q: Can I apply VC® Performance Epoxy directly over existing antifouling paint?
Generally no. Applying a 2-part epoxy over existing ablative or single-part antifouling paint is not recommended and can cause adhesion failure. The existing antifouling must be completely removed and the surface properly prepared before applying VC® Performance Epoxy. Refer to the Interlux product guide or contact Interlux technical support to confirm the correct system for your hull’s coating history.
Q: Is this product available in colors other than white?
The V127KIT2CA is the white formulation. Check the Interlux VC® Performance Epoxy range for other available options, or contact us if you’re looking for a specific color.
Q: How many coats are typically required?
Interlux generally recommends two to three coats for a full racing system, but coverage requirements depend on hull size, application method, and the surface condition. Refer to the Interlux technical data sheet for specific coat and coverage guidance.
Q: Can this be wet-sanded for a higher-gloss finish?
Yes. VC® Performance Epoxy can be wet-sanded and compounded after full cure to achieve a smoother, lower-drag surface — this is a common approach for performance racing applications. Refer to Interlux’s finishing recommendations for sanding grit progression.
Q: What is the shelf life once mixed?
Once Part A and Part B are combined, you must use the mixed material within the pot life window stated on the technical data sheet — typically 4–6 hours depending on temperature. Do not return unused mixed material to the original containers.

Parts Desk Insights
VC® Performance Epoxy is the go-to choice for competitive sailors and performance powerboat owners who race or store their boat on a rack and want the smoothest, fastest bottom possible. It’s a genuinely premium 2-part system — the fluoro-microadditive in the epoxy creates a surface that’s noticeably slicker than standard bottom paints, and it holds up well to repeated rack contact that would scuff a softer finish. The most common issue we see is customers trying to apply it over existing antifouling — that will cause adhesion failure. The existing antifouling has to come off completely first, which is real work but non-negotiable for a 2-part system to bond correctly. The second most common question is coverage — a 2-gallon kit covers a reasonable hull area with two coats, but larger performance boats may need additional kits. Plan your quantities based on your hull’s waterplane area and the number of coats you intend to apply. If you’re starting from bare fiberglass or have moisture concerns, pair it with Interlux Interprotect 2000E as the barrier coat layer beneath.
