Product Description
The Jabsco 17018-0001-P is a large Profile M flexible impeller kit for compatible marine diesel engine-cooling and water-transfer pumps. It uses an eight-blade neoprene impeller with a brass spline-drive hub and measures approximately 2-9/16 inches in diameter by 3 inches wide. The kit is associated with selected Caterpillar, Volvo Penta and MerCruiser diesel raw-water pump applications.

This impeller is significantly wider than many other 65 mm Jabsco models. The full 3-inch width and 5/8-inch spline hub are critical identification points.
When This Part Needs Replacement
Replace the impeller when:
- Raw-water or exhaust-water discharge weakens
- Engine temperature begins rising
- The pump struggles to prime
- Blades become cracked, hardened or permanently folded
- Blade tips are torn or missing
- The brass spline hub becomes loose or damaged
- The pump has operated without an adequate water supply
- Scheduled annual cooling-system service is due
Flexible impellers should generally be replaced at least annually, or sooner in high-duty engine-cooling service. Neoprene is intended primarily for fresh water, salt water and engine-cooling applications where only minor oil or diesel contamination is present.
Installation Notes
- Stop the engine and isolate the starting circuit.
- Close the raw-water intake seacock.
- Remove the pump cover and old sealing components.
- Use an appropriate impeller puller or suitable pliers to grip the hub.
- Do not pry against the pump housing or sealing face with a screwdriver.
- Recover missing blade fragments from hoses, coolers and heat exchangers.
- Inspect the pump bore, cam, shaft, splines and cover plate.
- Apply the supplied lubricant to the impeller before installation.
- Align the brass spline hub carefully with the pump shaft.
- Install the new gasket and O-ring as applicable.
- Reopen the seacock and verify strong water flow immediately after startup.
Do not allow the pump to run dry. Flexible-impeller pumps may require a short priming period, but prolonged dry operation can rapidly overheat and destroy the neoprene blades.
